Term 3

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a wonderful break, and are looking forward to the new term ahead.   

Our whole school theme for Term 3 is “Navigation”, and we will be exploring this through different subject areas.

In English we will begin the term by exploring the non-fiction text “A Ticket Around the World” by Natalia Diaz and Melissa Owens.  This links to our theme of Navigation, as well as recapping our knowledge of continents and oceans from Term 1.  We will be looking at the features of a non-fiction text and comparing with fiction. We will then be reading the book “Beegu” by Alexis Deacon.  Through this text we will be looking at features of stories and writing postcards.

In maths we will continue to develop our addition and subtraction skills. We will then move on to learning about money.  We will be calculating totals and finding change, as well as solving problems related to money.

Our history this term is linked to our whole school "Navigation" theme where we will be learning about explorers and their impact.  We will recap our knowledge of timelines and move on to learning about Christopher Columbus, Amelia Earhart, Matthew Henson and Neil Armstrong.  We will thinking about the impact they had and discussing how exploration has changed over time.

In science we will be learning about materials and their properties. We will explore different materials and think about why materials are chosen for different purposes. In PSHE we will be covering the topic “Practice makes Perfect”, thinking about our goals and how we can reach them, and how we can show resilience when faced with setbacks.  In RE we will be focusing on celebrations. 

Forest school will begin again for year 2 this term.

PE and Forest school will both take place on a Tuesday.

Please continue to read at home daily and record this in your child's reading record. Books will be changed every Friday.

Please practise times tables on TT Rockstars regularly, as well as spellings on EdShed.
