Term 2

Welcome back Year 2! We hope everyone had a restful break ahead of another busy term at school.

In English, we will begin the term by exploring the wonderful poem The Magic Box by Kit Wright.  We will examine the language used and use it to inspire us to write our own poems.  We will then be moving on to After The Fall by Dan Santat.  This fantastic story shows us how we can build up our confidence following a set back.  Through this text, we will be learning about the features of diaries and how to write a diary entry. In maths we will be recapping our previous knowledge of place value, before moving on to addition and subtraction.  We will continue to develop our learning of number bonds and fact families, working towards adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers.  At the end of the term we will be focusing on 2D and 3D shapes. 

We will begin our history learning for Year 2 this term, with our first topic being Timelines and Coronations.  We will create our own personal timelines using photos of our important milestones.  As we move onto coronations, we will compare the coronations of Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III.  In DT we will be learning about levers and sliders by designing, creating and evaluating our own mechanisms. 

The whole school theme for the term is The Arts! Through our music lessons we will be composing our own pieces of music using the glockenspiels.  We will also be singing festive songs towards the end of term.

P.E. days this term for both classes will be a Tuesday and a Wednesday.

Please continue to read at home daily and record this in your child's reading record. Books will be changed every Friday.
